Aid to flood victims by Lakhimpur dist Red Cross

The Lakhimpur District Branch of Indian Red Cross Society conducted a series of relief camps to distribute essentials to the flood victims in different parts of the district. The first of such camp was held at Na-Kadam, under Kadam revenue circle on February 25. The relief material distribution meeting was chaired by Sula Bora, ex-MLA, Lakhimpur and life member of the Red Cross. The circle officer of Kadam Revenue circle, Utpal Borah and veteran athlete and founder secretary of Lakhimpur district Red Cross Society, Haladhar Duwarah joined the meeting as the guest of honour. The secretary of Lakhimpur district Red Cross Society explained the purpose of the meeting. 92 flood-affected families of Kadam Revenue circle were distributed relief materials on the occasion. The second meeting of the flood relief material distribution was held at Nowboicha, under Nowboicha revenue circle on February 26. The meeting was chaired by Deben Mahanta, noted academician. The meeting was attended by circle officer Nowboicha revenue Circle, Anima Das Saikia, veteran athlete Haladhar Duwarah, ex-principal Nitya Nanda Senapati, local scribe Umandnda Baruah and teachers Indreswar Saikia and Tilak Kakati. Altogether 106 flood-affected families of Nowboicha Revenue Circle were distributed relief materials on that meeting. The third of relief material distribution camp for the flood-ravaged families by the Lakhimpur Red-Cross was held at Bihpuria under the Bihpuria Revenue Circle. The meeting for that occasion was chaired by Dharma Kanta Mili, circle officer, Bihpuria revenue circle and a noted writer-poet. The meeting was attended by Ram Kumar Pegu, circle officer Narayanpur Revenue Circle, veteran athlete Haladhar Duwarah, Jagat Hazarika, vice-president, Bihpuria Town committee, Krishna Ram Das, principal, Kharapathar H.S. School, local Red Cross member Basu Das and president of the village Headmen Council, Bihpuria. Altogether, 50 flood-affected families of Bihpuria Revenue Circle were distributed flood relief materials on that occasion. The fourth camp was held at Narayanpur on February 28 under the Narayanpur Revenue Circle. The meeting on the occasion was chaired by Girish Bhuyan, veteran academician. The meeting was attended by Ram Kumar Pegu, Circle Officer, Narayanpur Revenue Circles, veteran athlete Haladhar Duwarah and Naren Sarma, ex-principal Madhavdev College, Narayanpur as guest of honour. Altogether 50 flood-affected families of Narayanpur Revenue Circle were distributed flood relief materials in the camp. In all the camps, each flood-affected family received one tirpal, one blanket, one bedsheet, one sari, one towel, one mug, four glasses, one large bowl, four spoons, one large serving spoon, one knife and one mosquito net.
