AJK government to extend maximum relief to Mangla dam victims

AJK government is determined to take all possible effective steps to ensure disbursement of maximum relief and compensatory funds to Mangla dam victims which have already been released by the government. This was told in a high level meeting of Mangla Dam Resettlement Organisation held here on Monday under the chairmanship of Commissioner Mangla Dam Affairs Chaudhry Amir Afzal. Divisional Commissioner Ehsan Khalid Kiyani, DIG Police Mirpur Range, Joint Commissioner Mangla Dam Affairs Mahmood Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent Police Mirpur and other senior officials of Wapda and other concerned local authorities attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the pace of the ongoing process for rehabilitation of dam victims falling displaced due to the ongoing raising of the country's second biggest dam. The meeting especially discussed the pace of the development works in new Mirpur city and four towns exclusively developed for housing the victims. Speaking on this occasion Commissioner Mangla Dam Affairs Engr. Amir Afzal said that AJK government would safeguard the due rights of the victims besides taking all possible steps to keep them safe from the bitter experiences of the past. He said that process of resettlement and rehabilitation of the victims of the project will be ensured to be completed before the completion of the ongoing construction work of raising of the dam.
