VASCO: The State administration has decided to demolish all 157 structures on Baina beach on Saturday. While Mormugao officials have refused to reveal anything, sources have confirmed the demolition and informed that notices were sent to departments on Thursday requesting their services for the demolition.
On September 9, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), through the Mormugao Deputy Collector’s office, issued a final notice to all 157 hutments. Since then, the hutment dwellers have been running from pillar to post to get a stay on the demolition. They were also preparing to approach the Supreme Court for relief.
On September 16, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Pune bench directed GCZMA to submit a compliance report by October 17 on the demolition order passed by the latter.
Meanwhile, Baina residents are shocked at how the State administration has planned the demolition without informing the hutment residents. They alleged that the administration had kept the plan a secret as it had a hidden agenda.
“It is shocking how the administration has already decided to demolish our structures soon after Ganesh Chaturthi. It has kept its plan a secret due to some hidden agenda, which is unfair to us,” said a hutment resident.
