The reports were produced following a direction of this Division Bench to ensure that the concerned departments had taken the steps it had ordered to reduce pollution in and around Victoria Memorial following a Public Interest Litigation by Mr Subhas Dutta alleging that the Makrana marble (a good quality milky white marble) of this magnificent structure was being stained by smoke and fumes. Plying of goods vehicles on the stretch surrounding Victoria Memorial has been prohibited for 24 hours, the city police report stated. The state government has decided to shift the bus terminus from Esplande, the report of the state transport department stated.
