The State government has promised to protect all the lakes in the State including the live tanks in the City by fencing and increasing the green cover around them.

A member secretary, Karnataka Legal Service Authority shall act as a co-ordinator among all the respondents including revenue and forests departments. The Member secretary will conduct bi-monthly meeting to oversee the compliance of the court order.
The petitioner Krishna Bhat had moved High Court seeking directions to prevent encroachment and pollution of City lakes as reported in the Lakshman Rao Committee report submitted in July 26, 1985. The petitioner had sought the diversion of sewage water entering into the lakes, survey the wetland areas and protective fencing.
The Court, upon hearing the matter, sought to know the measures taken by departments like BBMP, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Lake Development Authority, Bangalore Development Authority and others to save the water bodies.
Following the assurance that lakes in the city as well as in the state would be fenced, the Court directed the revenue department to survey the lake area and ordered the Lake Development Authority to fence the area. The Court also directed the LDA to plant trees around the lake with the help of forest department.
