The alligator-breeding scheme of Van Vihar is hanging in balance as the Jaipur sanctuary has refused to provide male alligator to Van Vihar. Keeping in mind the decreasing number of alligators the former director of Van Vihar, Dr AK Bhattacharya had prepared this scheme.
In this connection letters have been written to Jaipur sanctuary authorities. Earlier sanctuary authorities were careless over the matter then in the answer of second letter they refused to provide male alligators.
Sources said that there are 11 female alligators in Van Vihar and no male alligator. Van Vihar is trying to seek another alternative in this connection and soon letter would be written to the other sanctuaries.
According to Van Vihar management, the breeding scheme has been delayed after refusal of Jaipur sanctuary. Sources further said that a vulture-breeding centre is also being started. In the first phase of the scheme around 50 vultures would be kept at the vulture-breeding centre near Kerwa dam. The breeding centre is likely to be started from June in association with Bombay History and Van Vihar.
