Ambala faces flood threat again

CHANDIGARH: Flood alert was sounded on Thursday in Ambala and Yamunanagar districts of Haryana as the Tangri river was flowing over the danger mark. Some villages were inundated with nearly four feet water and residents were evacuated to safe places, official sources said here. They, however, added that the situation was under control and the district administrations was prepared to tackle any emergency. Meanwhile, Sonepat Deputy Commissioner Ajit Joshi advised residents living close to the Yamuna river and in low-lying areas to remain alert following release of water from the Tajewala headworks upstream. He added that the level of water in the drains had also increased following heavy rains which had led to discharging of one lakh cusecs of water in the Yamuna river on Wednesday night. The situation was being closely monitored, he further said. Mr. Joshi said that there was a plan to discharge 1.5 lakh cusecs of additional water in the river by Friday morning and the administration had made elaborate arrangements to tackle any situation.
