Mumbai, July 20 MoU signed between Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran and Singapore agency for water management
Water woes are likely to end at Ambernath as the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), which supplies water to the town, is likely to start 24-hour water supply.
This comes into effect after the MJP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Public Utility Board (PUB), the national water agency of Singapore, for urban water management.
The agreement was signed between Dr Sanjay Dahasahasra, member secretary of MJP and Khoo Teng Chye, Chief Executive of the PUB on June 26 at the Singapore International Week Event.
As per the MOU, both the MJP and the PUB would work on practices in water use, management of water supply and demand, leak detection and waste water treatment and recycling of water.
As a pilot project, Ambernath town in Thane was chosen. The town's population is about 2.7 lakh and requires 50 mld per day. Currently, water distribution in the city ranges from 3-4 hours.
The town has water distribution network of 160 km with some 17,000 connections. Some 30 percent of the water is wasted due to leakage.
