AMC 'emergency' meet next week!

Ahmedabad: The deadly mutant strain of hepatitis-B has now got its first reported victim in Ahmedabad. But, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seems to be hardly affected by it. Health committee of AMC will be holding an 'emergency' meeting, which has been scheduled only in the next week. The meeting will chart a plan of action for the city This, after the deadly disease has already claimed 57 victims in Sabarkantha district. The total number of hepatitis cases in the state has grown to 209, with eight new cases being reported in the Sabarkantha district.
Altaf Ismail, 25, a resident of Jamalpur is the first hepatitis-B victim in the city Ismail has been admitted to Chippa Welfare General Hospital in Jamalpur for the last three days.
AMC medical officer Suhash Kulkarni said, "We have given specific instructions to the concerned department to keep a close watch over the patient. Health department is on a high alert and is taking all precautionary measures. AMC has also started a widespread awareness campaign about the deadly virus."
Congress corporator, Imran Khedawala said, "AMC authorities have still not woken up to the seriousness of the disease. After a brief drive against people recycling medical wastes, the action has fizzled out."
