Guntur, Sept. 3: The district collector, Mr B. Venkatesam, on Wednesday said there would be no scarcity of fertilisers in the district with the beginning of the arrival of stocks to railway yard, Nehru Nagar in Guntur. The collector made a surprise check of fertiliser stocks being received at the railway yard on Wednesday evening. Mr Venkatesam, along with the Guntur revenue divisional officer, Mr Venkat Rao, and incharge joint director of agriculture, Mr Ramakrishna Murthy, inspected 17,500 matric tones received by the district. Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, the collector appealed to farmers not to worry over the shortage of manure. He said fertiliser scarcity arose in the district due to delay in supplies. He said sufficient quantity of manure would be available in the open market from Thursday. He said supplies through Mana Growmore will be scrapped due to problems in distribution and maintenance. The collector said special officers were appointed for 19 Assembly segments to check proper distribution and illegal storage. He warned that criminal cases would be booked against the dealers for sale of manure at excess prices. The collector said instructions were given to book criminal cases against the dealers, Lakshmi and Jaganmohan in Nizampatnam for hoarding manure. He said the police identified offenders who attacked the godowns and government offices in Piduguralla, Muppalla and Sattenapalli. The collector said he would personally verify the distribution of manure in the district. He expressed confidence that the agitation in the district will end soon with the arrival more stocks. District ministers, MPs and MLAs have also taken the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister and the minister for agriculture, he added. The district witnessed series of violent incidents which include attack on market yard offices, agriculture department staff, road blockade and finally looting of a godown in Sattenapalli on Tuesday.
