Vadodara: Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (KDCMPUL), popularly known as Amul Dairy, has registered annual turnover of Rs 1,378 crore this year, the highest in the history of the dairy. Beating the recessionary trend, the dairy has registered 28 per cent growth with additional turnover of Rs 301 crore. Last year, Amul diary's annual turnover stood at Rs 1,077 crore.
"This financial year, we also paid the highest price to farmers, Rs 297.76 per kilogram fat that they supply to the dairy," Amul Dairy's managing director Rahul Kumar told TOI after the annual general meeting on Tuesday.
The quantity of milk procured also remained very high with 17.8 lakh litres procured in January being the highest procurement in a single day. "In all, we procured 48 crore litres of milk this year, which is about 16 per cent higher than last year and has almost doubled in the last three years. The dairy is now eyeing 20 lakh litres as peak procurement next year and 25 lakh litres peak procurement within two to three years time," Kumar said.
The union that has also set itself the target of achieving 100 per cent chilling at village level in a record time of 200 days, has put in place more than 200 bulk coolers in the system ensuring that 60 per cent of milk supplied in the system comes through bulk coolers set up at village level milk societies.
"By March 2010, we will be achieving 85 per cent of this target so that we can provide high quality milk to consumers," said Kumar.
