Alarmed at the fast depleting forest cover in Assam caused by large-scale felling of trees and heavy encroachment over the years, the Assam Government is planning a number of measures including setting up 'eco battalions' for massive regeneration of forests, besides leasing out barren forest areas to private parties for tree plantation.
