Andhra allocates Rs 10,000 cr for irrigation

The Andhra Pradesh Government has earmarked a whopping Rs 10,000 crore for the irrigation sector in the 2006-07 budget, unprecedented in the history of any other State. This is 51.15% increase over the allocation of Rs 6,350 crore in current year's budget. The Government had earmarked Rs 4,002 crore in its first year's budget 2004-05. This was the most important feature of the State budget presented by the Finance Minister K Roshaiah in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Monday. "We are rededicating ourselves to the task of completing the irrigation projects which will hard a new era of agriculture prosperity," he said.
