In an interview to ANGOP, Miranda Kiala reminded that oil companies must also abide by the environmental legislation in force in Angola, such as the mentioned Executive Decree, for in doing otherwise they can be faced with a penalty. "We hope the oil companies are getting ready to implement this regulation, after the time was given to them for their technological preparation (...)", Miranda Kiala explained, adding that the inspection work is going to be rigorous. In the ambit of this issue, the environmental supervisor of the Chevron oil company, Daniel João, has said to ANGOP that Chevron is ready to adopt the recommended practices in the management of oil residues as a product of its activities in this country, both on the sea and land. "Up to now we are still operating under the Executive Decree Number 12/05 which enables the discharge (of residues) in the ocean. As from July this year it will be forbidden the discharge on the ocean and Chevron is prepared for this", he assured.
