The next time you see an injured dog or bird and want to nurse it, just call Animal Link at 9932170235. This was the assurance given at the inauguration of the organisation for the destitute and injured creatures. "Animals are interlinked with humans and form an important part of their lives,' said Nelson Patrick, the president of Animal Link on Sunday. "It has been psychologically proven that a family with a pet is a family better off, as the creature forms a link between its members.' Hospitals in England allow patients' pets to visit them, working wonders for their recovery, added Patrick, a former educationist. "We have procured a bicycle for our volunteers to reach the spot quickly, and the Bangshidhar Moynadevi Charitable Trust has promised us an ambulance to carry stricken creatures to veterinary hospital,' said Raj Basu, an environment activist. A dog sterilisation centre run by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation will also double up for treatment of the animals and their rehabilitation wherever possible, he added. "Our aim is to create awareness about animals, both stray and domesticated, and make people understand that they too have feelings. Several organisations exist world-wide and in the country, like Greenpeace, Blue Cross and Peta. But Siliguri and north Bengal lacked a single platform to address the need,' Patrick said.
