Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced a new UN reform effort to better address key priorities such as fighting poverty, terrorism, and AIDS and to solve the problems of too many meetings and reports. He said every UN department will be asked to review all its programs to see if they are still relevant - and to identify new areas and activities where more needs to be done to meet the priorities in the millennium declaration adopted by more than 150 world leaders in September 2000.
