Water meters have proved too hot for the Andhra Pradesh government to handle as Opposition parties and the affected farmers have literally revolted against their installation. While the Opposition alleges that the installation is a precursor to privatising water supply, farmers fear that it is a precursor to charging water through "cess" or "user charge".The combine of nine Left parties has decided to oppose this move and launch an agitation from August 28 all over the state against this policy which they charge is in accordance with the "dictates" of the World Bank.
