A pilot project has been taken up to eliminate child labour in Andhra Pradesh which has the dubious distinction of being ranked first in the practice of this social evil, Mr. N M Adyanthaya, Member of the ILO governing body representing workers' organizations from India, has said. It has been decided that by 2005, all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years should be made literate. But poverty and traditional practices of parents are coming in the way.
