Kadapa, Aug. 18: Though the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, with a big intention to make the agricultural fields green, had sanctioned Rs 3,402.93 crore for various irrigation projects, the works on various projects were going at a snail's pace, allegedly because of the lackadaisical attitude of the government officials. Most of the projects could not be launched in the wake of non-availability of land as the district administration could not acquire the necessary land due to various reasons. Work of almost all the projects are being hampered due to the land problem. The Chief Minister is conducting review every month on the progress of works on various projects at Hyderabad, besides discussing the issue with the officials whenever he visits the district. But there is no movement in the officials to clear the hurdles in launching and completing the irrigation projects. There is no trace of speeding up of works on these irrigation projects, though the Chief Minister's chief secretary (irrigation) and government chief secretary (irrigation) visited the district three months ago and directed the officials to hasten the project works. Those projects which were being delayed for want of funds too are lagging behind even after the sanction of adequate funds. According to official sources, the government had sanctioned Rs 3,402.93 crore for various projects during this financial year. A total of 1,87,734 acre land would come under the ayacut of various projects once the projects that were planned were completed in time. Water was supposed to be supplied to farmers under Gandikota, Mailavaram and Telugu Ganga lift irrigation schemes by November. Water has to be released to Pulivendula constituency through Pulivendula branch canal by July. However, none of these projects were not yet completed so far.
