Jubbal (Shimla): The BJP government chose to celebrate completion of six months in power at Jubbal-Kotkhai today by raising the minimum support price of apple by 50 paise per kg. The BJP had alleged while in opposition that the Congress had overlooked the area during its term. The support price of apple is now Rs 5.25 per kg. Launching a scathing attack on former chief minister Virbhadra Singh for ignoring Jubbal-Kotkhai, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today showered development projects on the area, including a modern marketing yard at Kharapatthar and a helipad near Jubbal. Flanked by local MLA and Horticulture Minister Narendra Bragta and Transport Minister Krishan Kapoor, Dhumal got in poll mode, saying, "From here let us begin the journey to oust the Congress government at the Centre. Each vote that you cast for the BJP would mean more development and better roads.' Though the CM's presence did not attract much of a crowd, whosoever came was amused with the political war of words between Virbhadra Singh and Dhumal and happy with the announcements made by the government. An octogenarian, Seva Ram Nanta, summed it up, "As long as people of the area are benefiting from the intense political war between the Congress and BJP, it is good.' Targeting Virbhadra Singh, Narendra Bragta talked about the pathetic condition of roads leading to the area. "The former CM rarely bothered to travel to the area by road and despite being the largest apple producing area of Asia, Jubbal-Kotkhai was deprived of good connectivity.' The CM also laid foundation stones of five developmental schemes and an office-cum-residential complex of 111 MW Savra-Kuddu hydro electric project at Hatkoti. It is the first-ever power project funded by the Asian Development Bank.
