Aravalli project helped increase forest cover

An ambitious afforestation programme launched in Aravalli hills has resulted in an increase in the forest cover from nearly 2201 hectares in 1990 to 31,886 hectares, according to the report of the Haryana State Remote Sensing and Application Centre (HARSAC), Hissar. Besides, 38,050 hectares had been covered under vegetative rehabilitation. Stating this in Chandigarh, the Haryana Minister of State for Forests, Mr. Jagdish Yadav, said the top national forestry award, "Indira Priyadarshani Vrikshamitra Award " was given to Haryana for successful implementation of this project.
