Even as the Goa Pollution Control Board has de-sealed 29 stone crushers at the Sao Jose de Areal belt, local residents have demanded strict monitoring of the dust pollution before any permission is granted for the crushers to re-commence full-fledged operations. Residents have drawn attention of the GPCB Member Secretary Ashok Daiwajna that while Board officials are monitoring the air quality after allowing individual units to start operation, no cognizance is taken of the fact that dozens of trucks have stopped plying in the belt so that the dust kicked up by their regular plying goes undetected. It was pointed out that the road leading to the stone crushers is blocked at the entry point from the main road at Sao Jose de Areal by the owners to ensure no dust is detected during the ongoing monitoring exercise. "Why have the trucks stopped plying and the road closed near the entry point. The GPCB officials should note that efforts are on to hoodwink them that no dust pollution takes place in the area', remarked a resident. The residents have also sought to know whether the trucks carrying metal will be allowed to ply on the dusty potholed road, raising apprehensions that the situation will return back to square one if transportation of the metal is allowed on the dilapidated road. The Goa Pollution Control Board Member Secretary was unavailable for comments. However, residents are believed to have met him and informed him about the dusty road and demanding that the Board enforce all pollution norms in the belt.
