Argentina to plant 180,000 hectares of trees in '99

Argentina's forestation programme should plant 180,000 hectares of new trees in 1999 as the nation guns for a fresh two million sown hectares in a 10-year push, government officials said. Currently about 800,000 hectares of land are planted around the country thanks to economic stability, new laws and choice soils which have lured about $1.5 billion of private investment into Argentine forestry in the last four years, Omar Tesolin, government forestation programme coordinator, told Reuters.
