Acknowledging that forest fires on Borneo island have reached catastrophic proportions, environment ministers on Saturday called for intensified efforts to prevent the blazes from spreading. "The environmental calamity that has affected our region warrants Asean to act now and fast," Brunei's development ministers Dr Haji Ismail Haji Damit told environment ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations at a one-day meeting on smog.
