Even three years after the controversial Taj corridor project was shelved, the stones laid for the project right behind the Taj on the riverfront have not been removed by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI). Apart from affecting the visual aesthetics of the Taj, Unesco has warned that the stones' continues presence could have a dire impact on the monument. "The matter is sub-judice, with the Supreme Court hearing it. Nothing can be done till a final decision comes. Moreover, the stones were laid by the state government for the project and they should take follow-up action for removing them,"a senior ASI official said, when asked how long would the sandstone blocks remain there.
