Assam concern over Arunachal power projects

Construction of mega hydel power projects in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh has sent alarm bells ringing in Assam, with State Government seeking representation in a expert panel. Assam's concern emanated following the go-ahead in National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to construct several mega-multi-purpose hydro power projects in upper reaches of Brahmaputra river in Arunachal Pradesh estimated to generate 25,000 MW of power. The projects included, Subansiri upper, lower and middle, Dihang and Dibang and Siang hydro projects. The State's concern was brought to the notice of the Centre by State Environment and Forest minister, Pradyut Bordoloi at the Conference of State Forest ministers, Forest secretaries, Principal Chief Forest Conservator and Chief Wildlife Wardens that got underway.
