Assam plans to make up greatest forest cover loss

Bogged down by alarming depletion of forest cover, the Assam forest department has submitted scheme proposals worth Rs 150 crore to the environment and forest ministry for reviving the forest cover and to protect the endangered wildlife in Assam. Disclosing this to The Asian Age, state forest minister Pradyut Bordoloi said the schemes include plan to revive the world heritage site Manas Tiger Reserve and Kaziranga National Park besides setting up a gene library to preserve the endangered flora and fauna of the state.
