Notwithstanding the tremendous pressure of keeping law and order in this insurgency-hit State, Assam Police has committed itself to a unique project called "Green Earth" aimed at enhancing the green cover in the State. The Minister of State for Home Pradyut Bordoloi today informed that under the "Green Earth" project, Assam police had set a target to plant 5 lakh saplings at different places all over the state during this monsoon season. Out of these five lakh saplings which will be provided by the State forest Department, 50,000 will be planted within the city of Guwahati in select locations including hill tops, barren areas, river banks to check soil erosion as well as to beautify the city.
