The government of the newly carved out state of Uttaranchal is reportedly taking up work on a highway linking Dehra Dun and Naini Tal passes through the prestigious Corbett national park! That is, a considerable portion of tree cover in Corbett, probably the oldest reserve in the country which has been protected for more than a century, is to be destroyed for frivolous reasons like hassles likely to arise over octroi if traffic between Dehradun and Naini Tal has to pass through the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh....(Editorial)
