…Assures to assess pollution at Cuncolim

Promising corrective action vis-à-vis pollution in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, Environment Minister, Alina Saldanha has said she would personally visit the Estate next week to take stock of the situation on the pollution front.
Speaking to newsmen at Chinchinim on the sidelines of the awareness program on Garbage management, Saldanha said the situation is indeed alarming if pollution have affected the health and life of the local populace. “I am going to see that corrective measures are taken in the industrial estate immediately. I will visit the Industrial estate by the weekend”, she said.
On the hazardous waste lying at the industrial waste, the Minister said that GSPCB have already taken cognsiance of the conditions at the site and are in the process of covering the waste before the onset of monsoons.
Replying to a question, Alina, however, said the Board is yet to decide how to tackle the waste. “The Board is working out a solution. They are yet to decide where to dump the waste. When I go back, I will definitely look at the progress of work in the treatment of the hazardous waste”, she added.
