Atlantic lumber firms hope to dodge duties

Lumber producers in Atlantic Canada say there's a sliver of hope they can be excluded from the looming threat of duties on softwood exports to the United States. Mary Keith, spokesperson for J.D. Irving Ltd., Atlantic Canada's largest lumber producer, said Thursday the U.S. Commerce Department has left an opening that may allow East Coast producers to dodge the bullet on countervailing duties.
