Having been armed with the Supreme Court order, the Assam Forest Department seems to be very active in evicting indigenous, albeit illegal, encroachers from reserve forest lands. Thousands of indigenous people are being evicted, almost everyday, from reserve forest areas nowadays. Besides forest and police officials, a good number of elephants have been engaged by the Forest Department in its "mission demolition". But, the Forest Department, Golaghat district administration and the Police Department seems to be lacking the same enthusiasm when it comes to the case of evicting thousands of people of suspected nationalities.
