Representatives of the Adarsha Auto Union and Taxi Drivers' Association in Bangalore have alleged that the Transport Department and the transport commissioner, who launched a virtual war against pollution by autos and called for cleanliness, have yielded to pressure from LPG kit fitter tank manufacturers. Autorickshaws are being forced to convert to LPG kits, failing which fines of Rs 800-Rs 1,000 are being collected. The representatives said that exorbitant costs of fitter tanks ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 22,000 has caused much hardship to drivers.
