A group of developed countries led by the US assailed India's automobile policy at the World Trade Oganisation (WTO) and urged New Delhi to relax to restrictive import policy that came into effect in December last year. The US and Japan were particularly severe in criticising India for its failure to abandon the restrictive policy, particularly with regard to imports of knock-down auto kits popularly known in the industry by the acronym CDKs, which they said constituted a violation of the global regulations governing Trace Related Investment Measures (TRIMs). The European Union member countries, Canada and Switzerland were among those that criticised India.
