The Andhra Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram (AVKA) strongly opposed any move from the state government to promote exploration for bauxite by corporates in the tribal areas of the district. On the last day of the 3-day conclave of the Ashram on Sunday, they passed a resolution opposing the move by the government on mining that causes heavy displacement of tribals, heavy destruction of forest wealth and affects the environment. The AVKA in its other resolution suggested the steps to be taken in relation with the implementation of Land Transfer Regulation Act. It urged the government to educate the tribals about the revenue records and book suo motu cases against the land grabbers. They also adopted a resolution urging the government to curb religious conversions and thus protect the tribal culture and tradition. The Ashram also sought the repeal of reservations to converts, who are alienated from their tradition. The conclave ended on Sunday. Tribals, including women in large numbers from across the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh attended the provincial conference. All India Mahila Pramukh of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram, Madhavi Joshi addressed the workers and gave a call to awaken the tribals and take up several seva projects. She exhorted them to spread the Kalyan Ashram work in every nook and corner of the Vanavasi areas. She pointed out that religious conversions shall be opposed and the process of bringing them back to mainstream is to be taken up on a war footing. During the programme a colourful procession, Shobha Yatra, was taken out in traditional attires with drum beating and dhimsa dances, which attracted the onlookers. They sang bhajans, danced and raised slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai.
