The bamboo industry in India has an industry growth rate ranging between 15 and 20 per cent. The tallest grass has nearly 1,500 recorded uses ranging from medicines and handicrafts to construction. Though India offers a large potential for growth in this sector, poor management and delay in cultivation can lead to huge losses. There is close to 40 million tonnes of bamboo ready to be cut during the course of the ongoing financial year. But lack of initiative from the government and of adequate machinery is delaying the process. If the process isn't hastened it could destroy the crop.
