The NGO has been playing a leading role in promoting organic farming DEHRA DUN: Anil Rana director Janhit Foundation a Meerut based NGO has bagged the prestigious One World Award for his untiring efforts for conservation of biodiversity and nature in Western Uttar Pradesh. The award was presented to Mr Rana at Modena ( Italy) recently by Renate Kunast, the former Agriculture Minister of Germany. The One World Award has been instituted this year by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements ( IFOAM) and Rapunzel, both German organisations. It may be mentioned that the Janhit Foundation has been playing a lead role in promoting organic farming and rejuvenating ancient water bodies in Meerut region. It has recently brought out the first of its kind detailed census report of water bodies for Meerut. The study conducted by Janhit Foundation on extreme contamination of water, soil and air at Daurala village near Meerut and the subsequent ailments plaguing the population led to the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission a few years ago. Treading a new model of development, Mr Rana managed to rope in assistance from the polluting industries and the State Government to improve life through contamination fighting technologies and providing health and education facilities to the victims of Daurala village. After a few years of joint efforts, the population of Daurala is once again regaining strength to lead a normal life, Mr Rana said.
