KOLKATA : In a bid to reduce harmful effect of pollution on health, the Indian Medical Association has decided to conduct various mass awareness programmes in the city. Stressing on the need of such campaigns, Mrs Urmilla Khanna, president of Indian Medical Association said: "Pollution affects major human organs of the body and unless we are aware and take precautionary measures, the risk will keep on increasing in future.' She was speaking at a seminar organised by Indian Medical Association in view of the ensuing World Environment Day on 5 June. Experts in the seminar opined that climate change coupled with air pollution is the main cause of death among most urban people and the risk of various diseases could be reduced if one takes early precautionary measures. "We will organise rallies, sit and draw competitions and seminars from 5 June onwards to make people aware of the looming threat,' Mrs Khanna said.
