Awareness programme on bio-diversity

With a view to generate an awareness across a cross section of people living in the rural areas on the need of conservation of Natural Environment and the significance of bio-diversity conservation, the Doulguri Jnan Jyoti Sangha a premier socio cultural organization of Hazarikapara in Sipajhar LAC organized a day long awareness program on April 27 with the active support and cooperation from all sections of villagers. The program was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India under the program of "National Environment Awareness Drive, 2007-2008'. Prominent citizens namely Golok Kalita, Kanak Hazarika and Narendra Kalita marked the beginning of the campaign with a plantation program followed by a procession throughout the village. A lecture cum technical session was also arranged on the occasion chaired by Nabin Chandra Deka, President of the Sangha while Siba Prasad Sarma a teacher of Sipajhar HS and MP School inaugurated it. Taking part in the session as resource person, research scholars Rabindra Hazarika and Bhrigu Saikia of Zoology Department, Guwahati University highlighted the importance of the bio-diversity conservation in details through a slide presentation , which attracted a large audience particularly from the students' community. Addressing the session as appointed speaker, Bhargab Kumar Das Honorary Wildlife Warden, Government of Asom expressed serious concern over the increasing trend of causing damage to the environment and appealed to all sections of the society to come forward to strive for the conservation of the environment, bio-diversity and the wildlife which signify a indispensable part of the identity of Asom. Kamal Sarma Lecturer of Pub Kamrup College, Baihata Chariali also delivered some perspective on conservation of bio-diversity and the green environment of Asom. Jayanta Kalita General Secretary of the Sangha earlier explained the object of the day-long campaign and welcomed all the guests and participants. It may be mentioned that synchronizing with the year-long diamond jubilee celebration of the Sangha, the Doulguri Jnan Jyoti Sangha also celebrated the World Book Day on April 23 with an elaborate program.
