Awareness programme on biodiversity conservation held

A day-long awareness program on biodiversity and its conservation was held at Swahid Akshyendra High School premises recently. The program was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, as a part of National Enviroment Awareness campaign and organized by Survival, an NGO in association with Assam Science Society. The program began with art and slogan writing competition among the students. In the open session Ananta Mohan Sarma, lecturer of Balaji College was present on the occasion as resource person. Sarma in his speech stressed the importance of planting saplings to stop the negative impact of changing global environmental scenario. He urged all the community to realize this dangerous situation and plant saplings as much as they can. During the open session the position holders in the last HS exams were feted by the organizing committee. After the open session twelve valuable saplings were planted by representatives from each class in the school compound and took oath to protect the trees at any cost. To motivate the students for gaining interest in the program different mental games were organized by the resource persons
