The problems of fertiliser shortages have not been overcome, with small growers not being provided enough fertiliser. Small growers say that if Urea is not given to their crops, their rice, chillies, sugarcane and cotton crops would be destroyed, causing financial havoc for the growers. Fertiliser dealers too are unhappy, saying that they not getting their target amount of fertiliser. The dealers purchase fertiliser from other areas on extra payment they say. Growers allege however that dealers are responsible for the shortage of fertiliser, as they are giving preferential treatment to large growers from other areas, depriving small dealers. EDO Agriculture Abdul Sattar says dealers and fertiliser company employees were not giving correct information and DO Revenue Jawad Akram said that the provision of fertiliser is difficult, but that they are in contact with companies. Growers say that for two months in Badin they need 1,500,000 bags of fertiliser though it is not being provided. They said that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Fehmida Mirza and Provincial Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza - both from Badin - should take an interest in this serious matter.
