Balu announces schemes worth Rs 2,000 cr

Union Transport and Shipping Minister TR Balu announced road improvement schemes in Assam worth over Rs 2,000 crore. This is a part from the Rs 5 crore that has been sanctioned immediately to carry out initial repairs of the National Highways damaged by floods in the State. Balu, after a lengthy meeting with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and officials of the State Government said that it had been decided to convert the two-lane highway from Nagaon to Dibrugarh to a four-lane one under the Pradhan Mantri Bharat Jodo Project. Rs 1,000 crore will be spent on work on this 315 km stretch of road over the next three years. Chief Minister Gogoi had in his meeting requested Balu that the East-West Corridor Project should be extended to Upper Assam.
