Bamboo project to fight erosion in Majuli

The Mission for Bamboo Application, New Delhi, has taken up a pilot project in Majuli in Assam to prevent erosion in the island. The project was prepared by the Rain Forest Research Institute. Two scientists of the institute visited the island on August 21-22. The first phase, which is likely to start in October-November, will cost around Rs 15 lakh. Bamboo trees will be planted at 4-km stretch of the island along the Brahmaputra.
