The fund-starved Himachal Pradesh Government is losing forest revenue to the tune of Rs 250 crore annually on account of moratorium on green felling. The total forest wealth of the state is estimated at Rs 1 lakh crore at present and if the state goes for silviculture feelings, in accordance with the working plans, it could earn this amount annually. However, it has continued with a ban on commercial felling of trees despite financial crunch in the larger national interests of preserving the ecologically fragile Himalayan environment.
