Even though environmental organizations crying hoarse about the need for protecting nature, encroachment of forest land continues unabated. This is specially true of reserve forests of Assam. The Burhachapori Reserve Forest, Bhomoraguri Reserve Forest, Panpur, Naduar, Kuchmora Forest of Sonitpur have been denuded of rare and valuable trees like sal, teak, gamari, teeta sapa, bola etc., due to mass destruction and encroachment.
