Hundreds of Adivasi farmers in Bastar district are suffering due to the state government's refusal to let them cut eucalyptus trees planed on their own private plantations at personal expense. The trees were planted five years ago at the behest of the forest department which dangled before the farmers the dream of making millions from their sale without going through the rigma role of seeking government permission. Scores of poor Adivasi farmers responded enthusiastically to the offer.
