Allegations are rife that the Block Development Officer (BDO) Madhu Sudhan Nath of Ruposi development block under Barpeta district has misappropriated a huge amount of Government fund meant for various rural development schemes. The BDO under pressure from the people here has reportedly confessed his involvement in the act. According to reports, the BDO has confessed that he is indeed involved in depriving the genuine beneficiaries of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and has been grafting the funds through some middlemen in the name of implementing SGRY, IBS, IAY, BPL job cards, old age pension, etc. As per allegations, the corrupt BDO had taken Rs 4,000 from four persons of Kharball village against allotment of living quarters. Reports also said that the BDO has been deceiving the labourers employed under NREGA schemes. A section of deprived labourers gheraoed the officer of Ruposi development block staged a dharna. According to another source, a scheme of Rs 70 lakh under NREGA is being implemented in Balaipathar GP through two middlemen who are hand-in-glove with the BDO. The BDO has allegedly taken steps to get public work done by his two accomplices. But the newly-elected GP president interfered and later AP members and ward members staged a protest in front of the BDO's office recently. Bowing to pressure, the BDO confessed that he was illegally amassing money under various Government schemes. On the other hand, the people have urged the higher authority concerned to conduct an unbiased investigation into the corruption charges against the BDO in Ruposi development block.
