Benefit to 3 lakh farmers

Anantapur, July 4: Loan Vimukthi Melas would be organised throughout the state from July 8 to July 15 at all mandal headquarters where farmers will be presented with the debt waiver certificates with details of their loan outstanding amount, interest on loan and other details. On the same day, the documents pledged with the banks by the farmers for loans will be returned to them. The names of beneficiaries will also be displayed at all banks on July 20. The Congress activists are planning to utilise the week-long Loan Vimukti melas to showcase the achievements of the Central and the state governments headed by the Congress. With talk of early elections, the occasion is being viewed as a vote spinner for the Congress governments at the Centre and in the state. As many as 2,87,590 farmers in Anantapur district are in the process of being benefited by the Central government's loan waiver scheme and the total amount of loan waiver and loan relief amounts to Rs 520.51 crore, according to Syndicate Bank which is the lead bank in the district. Under the de-bt waiver scheme, 2,01,012 farmers would be benefited from complete loan waiver and the amount waived is Rs 409.46 crore. A total of 86,578 farmers would be benefited by partial loan waiver amounting to Rs 111.05 crore. Nineteen banks in the district participated in the debt waiver scheme and the highest number of farmers who benefited in the district were through the District Central Cooperative Bank.
