The West Bengal Government is planning to amend building rules to pave the way for environment-friendly and energy-efficient constructions. The Calcutta Municipal Corporation is already working on a similar proposal to pave the way for water harvesting and use of alternative energy. Addressing a seminar on "Global trends in building services engineering" organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Architectural Engineering division, here today, the State Minister for Housing and Public Health Engineering, Mr Gautam Deb, said that the new building laws would offer incentive to promote environment-friendly constructions in the State. The incentives would be offered through a lowering of different fees for sanctioning building plans and other service charges.
