At the State Power Minister's initiative, Bengal, after a gap of a few decades, finally plumped for mini-hydel generation in the hilly areas of Darjeeling. One 500 KW and a few 10 KW stations have come up and construction work is on for a 3 MW small hydel by WBSEB with fund assistance from the Union Ministry for Non-Conventional Energy Sources.
